Ride
Distance: About 46 miles
Speed: 18-20 average. Ride includes sprints/attacks. No one waits on
slower riders, but store break in the middle allows slower riders to
regroup. Group often splits into groups following attacks.
The
Skinny: Organizes in front of Outdoors, Inc., 1710 Union
Ave. in Midtown Memphis. for a 9am roll out. Do not park in Idlewild
Church lot next door. Ride departs north on Evergreen toOverton Park
Ave., west on Overton Park to N. Bellevue, north on Bellevue to
NorthParkway, west on North Parkway to Front and over the A.W. Willis
Bridge to Mud Island.North on Island Dr. around the river bend to N.
2nd St. North on N. 2nd /Whitney to Benjestown Rd. North on Benjestown
to Carrolton Ave., east on Carrolton, north on Creston, and north on
Millington Rd. North on N. Watkins (sometimes attacks start here if
participants are feeling randy) to Northhaven Dr. (Note: Sometimes this
ride takes an easterly track when participants get bored with the usual
westerly direction-both roughly track N. Watkins to the General Store
near Shelby Forest. I will track the more common westerly route, but
don't be surprised if the group continues north on Watkins for the
alternate route). West on Northaven to Circle Rd. South on Circle to
Benjestown, north on Benjestown to Ramsey Rd. West on Ramsey to circle
back to Benjestown, and north again on Benjestown all the way to the
General Store (Note: Sometimes select participants turn into Shelby
Forrest in order to climb the "Three Little Pigs", which exits at the
north end of the park on Bluff Rd. When this happens, those riders
travel south on Bluff to the General Store to meet up with riders who
chose not to endure this particular form of punishment.) There is a
sprint for the store on Benjestown. After a potty break, participants
usually retrace the route back to Outdoors in Midtown. There are
sprints/attacks on N. Watkins, fast tempo on N. 2nd near Mud Island,
and an all-out sprint to the top of the A.W. Willis Bridge on Mud
Island. Sometimes the group will choose to return via the easterly
route, which roughly tracks Walsh Rd on the east side of N. Watkins.
Either way, one must cross the Loosahatchie on N. Watkins to return to
Memphis.
